Previously, on the Dr. Zoidberg Show:

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

recap: the IS was losing discomforting amounts of oil. Took it in for an inspection. Leaks from multiple areas, coupled with lots of rain causing some caked leakage to loosen up and pour on down. Leaks onto exhaust manifold after drives for that lovely burning smell. Cam seal and valve cover both leaking.

Ultimately, I was faced with two choices with my car:

a) fix nothing and sell within the next year or so before shit gets worse.

b) just fix it

Well, it’s getting fixed.

I got a slightly cheaper quote over the phone elsewhere (you know how that goes), but I was already on the hook for the inspection, which went towards the repair bill if I used them instead. So to get my car back, pay that inspection, then take it somewhere else to verify the inspection and then do the work was not only a wash, but a total waste of time.

So, I’m gonna have this UX until early next week.

The UX would be the perfect sized car where it not for this damn steep rake on the rear glass. The cargo space is “fine,” but it could have been stellar. The RX is still the worst offender on that front, having less cubic feet behind the seats than my IS, in a vehicle that is absolute fat boi.

I guess I’ll just keep the IS forever until I can afford a brand new car.

Use Mobile 1 High Mileage for your next oil change. I have 3 old cars, and this oil has fixed every single small leak I’ve had. Everything from weeping rear main seal to your typical head gaskets and even pan gasket.

On the 2nd to 3rd oil change, your leak will likely stop completely. Your first oil change should be a quicker interval, about 3,000 - 5,000 range due to the high detergents with this oil. Once it cleans up the internal gunk, the seals will get more supple and stop leaking.

I know so many people that swear by  this oil, I finally tried it a decade ago, and haven’t looked back.

It needs to be an actual color to attempt to smooth out the thousands of creases. Interesting how the LC is smooth and flowing but everything else is creased and folded to the nth degree.

this is how i feel about most all cars now. why did you have to ruin this usable space with some goofy rake on the rear windscreen?

Pretty typical old car stuff. I’d expect to do VC gaskets, cam seals, rear and front main seal, etc. on pretty much anything with 120k+ miles or 15+ years old at this point.

Makes more sense than the plan for my IS eventually... full respray, rust repair, TRD replica body kit, coilovers, sway bars, and a manual transmission swap.

Thanks, although I’m not so sure. Makes me want to just store it and bomb around in the longboi, but it needs a few bucks to actually  handle daily use... No getting around the money thing.

It's very frustrating. I'm sure it nets 0.25 miles per gallon better and saves X dollars on sheet metal and glass. BOO!

That is a lot of leaks to just spring up out of nowhere. Any suspicion of a clogged pcv valve causing excess pressure and blowing out the seals? Also those Hybrid UX’s are anemically slow and the stereo is just as weak.

I think they were wearing out and then I drove it pretty hard which accelerated the problem. I drove it nearly 700 miles last weekend, and fast. When you consider I typically drive only 2k a year outside of work... I done borked it.

the rake on new suvs defeats part of the whole use of the trunk . A month ago I was traveling with my parent to visit a relative, and we were going to take my moms grand cherokee, and had to reorganize the trunk to fit all our stuff more than I would have expected.
